     The Cal-Mag manufactured by Nutritional Engineering, has been formulated specially to help overcome the magnesium deficiency that can be caused by high level calcium supplementation. Because of the alarming increase of osteoporosis, many doctors, nutritionists, and supplement manufacturers are pushing high level calcium supplementation (1000 mg - 3000 mg per day), assuming that increased calcium will solve the problem. Even the anti-acid producers are getting into the calcium supplementation act. Extra calcium is being added to milk, even soft drinks and orange juice. In the midst of all this calcium furor it seems that some of the basic biochemistry of calcium metabolism and the close involvement of calcium with other nutrients such as potassium and magnesium, have been forgotten or ignored.

     High levels of calcium supplementation suppress magnesium absorption. This can cause a magnesium deficiency. A magnesium deficiency results in increased production of the PTH(parathyroid hormone) which mobilizes bone calcium, transferring it from bone into soft tissues, (cells), where it does not belong in increased amounts. This continual loss can cause bone mass loss and weakening of the bone structure.

     Magnesium deficiency causes a decrease in the production, by the kidneys, of dihydroxy vitamin D-3 which results in inefficient absorption of calcium by the intestines and a further loss of magnesium by the kidneys. This calcium deficiency is made up by mobilizing calcium from the bones. The abnormal levels of PTH hormone, because of magnesium deficiency, causes this calcium to end up in the soft tissues(cells) rather than being redeposited in the bone. This calcium in the cells inhibits enzyme reactions that are necessary for cellular health and suppresses the production of ATP by the mitochondria of the cells. The ATP is the energizer, the source of energy for the cell. The cell operation becomes sluggish and less efficient. This process can result in accelerated aging and premature death of cells. This increase of cellular calcium, at the expense of magnesium and potassium, is partially responsible for chemical imbalances in the cell that make us more susceptable to degenerative processes.

     Natural foods (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds) have ratios of magnesium to calcium of 2-8 parts magnesium to 1 part calcium. It would seem a more logical approach to osteoporosis would be to increase our magnesium intake, increase our exercise and change our dietary habits to minimize or exclude those items which drain our body of magnesium, calcium and potassium, such as processed foods, refined sugars, high protein intake, high phosphates and high fats. The best way to obtain magnesium, calcium and other nutrients is by eating properly. In the natural foods the Creator has balanced the nutrients for us. Supplements are helpful as insurance but should only be used to supplement.

     The Vita-Mins manufactured by Nutritional Engineering, Ltd are multivitamin-mineral tablets produced from pure non-allergenic vitamin and mineral compounds, balanced to give a low level, more than adequate, supplementation. Vita-Mins are extra fortified with those vitamins and minerals which are usually deficient in our modern diet.

     Vitamins are very potent chemical agents that are utilized, in our body, in very small amounts.      A unique dietary supplement developed by Robert Koch, DSc and produced by Nutritional Engineering, Ltd.. The C-dophilus is manufactured with live freeze dried acidophilus lactobacillus bacteria.

     The capsules contain no artificial colors, preservatives, corn or wheat products. The acidophilus bacteria are cultured on whey, each tablet containing a minimum of 50 million live bacteria, which in a short time, in the intestinal tract, multiply many times. The acidophilus is a strain of a beneficial bacteria naturally inhabiting the intestinal tract. Being a friendly bacteria, the acidophilus can be helpful in many ways, most of which involve digestion and bowel function. The acidophilus lactobacillus is available in a variety of forms. It is in yogurt, in various cultured milk products, and in the concentrated supplement C-dophilus.

     The acidophilus bacteria help to maintain normal bowel function. Researchers have discovered that the acidophilus bacteria produce a natural antibiotic activity called "acidophillin" which inhibits the growth of many different types of harmful bacteria, including streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli, and salmonella. These infection fighters that should be present in our colon can help fight diarrhea and constipation whether it arises from adverse food reactions or from the use of various over the counter prescription drugs. Acidophilus bacteria are very helpful in restoring and maintaining a healthy internal ecology. Many antibiotics that are used, kill these friends as well as the harmful bacteria in the intestines. Taking C-dophilus helps restore these friendly bacteria.

     There are additional benefits provided by the C-dophilus. A healthy intestinal flora helps keep in check the opportunistic candida albicans which causes some yeast infections. Another bonus produced by these friendly bacteria - when they are established and growing in our colon, they control bad bacteria and detoxify the colon. Flavanol - Grape seed extract

Each tablet contains
50.0 mg OPC (oligoproanthocyanidins), water soluble extract from grape seeds, 92%-95% OPC.
100.0 mg Acerola extract supplying 17 mg natural vitamin C, and other bioflavonoids. Excipients micro-crystalline cellulose.



     Flavanol is the name of NEL's OPC or (Pycnogenol*). OPC is the abbreviation for OligoProanthoCyanidins. These compounds are some of Natures most powerful antioxidants and free radical scavengers. Their bioavailability is almost 100% because they are 100% water soluble. This class of compounds is found in many fruits, seeds and barks (i.e nut shells, cranberries, grape juice, grape seeds, bilberries, green tea,ginkgo biloba,pine bark etc.). The characteristic that determines the potency is not the source as much as the method of extraction and the concentration of the OPCs in the final extract. The scientist who first isolated the OPC was Dr. Jack Masquelier. He has the patent** on one of the extraction methods and on the antioxidant effect** of this class of compound. His first research was using OPCs isolated from peanut shells he later used grape seeds because the OPC content in the extract from grape seeds is much higher in the active OPCs. Jack Masquelier first named the OPCs Pycnogenol. Horphag Research pirated his name and trade marked in the U.S. for this reason in the U.S. we refer to the extract from pine bark or grape seeds as OPC rather than pay Horphag an unreasonable price to use the name.

     The grape seed extract was used for most of Masquelier's original research and is a more pure source of the OPC than pine bark. The grape seed extract contains a higher concentration of the OPC 95% as opposed to 85% for the pine bark. The grape seed extract also contains gallic acid esters of catechin and epicatechin which are better antioxidants than the OPCs. The OPCs improve and normalize capillary activity, strengthening capillary walls. They restore flexibility to arterial walls by binding to collagen fibers, realigning them in the process to a more youthful, un-damaged structure. Elasticity and flexibility is restored to coonnective tissues. The OPCs are anti- inflamatory and reduce the severity of allergic responses.

Ginkgo Biloba extract

50.0 mg of a 50:1 extract standardized to 24% Ginkgo flavone glycosides content including the Ginkgolides and bilobalides.





     Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest surviving tree species. It is resistant to insects, drought etc.. The Ginkgo is a tall beautiful, stately tree. The leaves turn golden in the fall. The leaves and nuts of this tree have been used for centuries by the Chinese as a medicine and tonic.

     Research through the centuries has shown that the extracts from the Ginkgo are beneficial for many different health problems. Following are a few of the many that the Ginkgo has helped

• It improves capillary circulation which improves circulation to all of the tissues and organs such as the brain and the heart.

• It interferes with PAF (platelet activating factor) which has been shown to possibly cause asthma, heart disease, hearing disorders and skin disorders like psoriasis.

200 mg of an 80% extract of th milk thistle that is standardized to provide 160 mg of the silymarin group of flavonoids which include silybinin, silydianin, and silychristin. q.s. excipients

     The flavonoids from the concentrates and whole extracts of the milk thistle seeds are some of the most potent liver protecting substances known.

     The liver is the most important organ of metabolism. Disruption of normal liver function results in significant disruption of all metabolic processes. The metabolic functions of the liver include regulation of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, storage of vitamins and minerals, and detoxification reactions. Disruption, to varying degrees, of liver function can be a major contributor to the development of degenerative disease and premature aging.      This formula is one that has been used for years by Robert Koch, DSc. and his family and friends. Because of many requests for this product NEL decided to add this one to the product line.

     This herbal product is used to boost the immune system and to help ward off an oncoming cold, respiratory infection, flu, etc. The secret is to begin treatment at the onset and continue use for ten days. Because of the capsicum, this product should be taken with plenty of fluids and with some food. This avoids the sometimes burning sensation that capsicum can cause if it comes up into the esophagus. Capsicum is referred to as a pepper but it is not a member of the pepper family it doesn't damage tissue the way that true peppers do. Capsicum is actually a very good healing herb. It is often used to treat ulcers. and to heal wounds. When capsicum comes in contact with the skin it causes an increase of blood circulation to the area. This property was used by Hannibal when he crossed the Alps with his army. They sprinkled powdered capsicum into their boots and the increased circulation stopped their feet from freezing.

     Echinacea is one of the best immune potentiators. It is non-toxic and it shifts the immune system into high gear, helping the body fight infection. Echinacea has been used for centuries and recently has become the center of scientific study. It shows activity not only against bacteria but also against certain viruses. However in the meantime, while they are studying it, we can take advantage of the excellent benefits that it can provide.

Taheebo Herbal Extract

Ingredients
Distilled water, alcohol (14-18%), Extract of the inner bark of the Tabebuia Aveliande and Tabebuia Heptophylla (Purple Bignoniaceae) herb, commonly known as Taheebo, Pau d' Arco, Lapacho, or Quechua.




     Taheebo is the Indian name for the inner bark of the Tabebuia tree found only in the Andes mountains of South America. The tabebuia tree, a member of the purple bignoniaceae family, is called the tabebuia aveliande, tabebuia heptophylla, tabebuia altissima, portugese name "Ipe Roxo", ot the spanish name "Lapacho". It is referred to as Pau d' arco or most commonly Taheebo. This bark is used by the Callawaya indians, descendents of the Inca medicine men, to cure cancer and many other diseases.

     Taheebo was a medicinal plant discovereed in 1977 by researchers studying the medicines used by various indian tribes in the Amazon jungle. They found that a tea made from the inner bark of th tabebuia tree had been used for many centuries as a cure for various tumors and other illnesses. Doctors Teodoro Meyer and Prats Ruiz of Brazil, researching the use of the herb, found it to be a "powerful tonic and blood builder. It strengthens the organic defenses to give the body vitality. It revitalizes the body by creating new vital elements and new normal cells."

     Taheebo is said to be a valuable preventative and curative agent for somatic illnesses. It is a detoxifier and it works upon the nervous system, especially the autonomic, to help in insomnia and anxiety states.
